What I’m Watching: Barbarian (2022)

So the hype for Weapons (2025) got me looking at Zach Cregger’s first movie, Barbarian, which I hadn’t seen. Gratefully, it’s on Netflix right now. I was nervous about it going the Neon/A24 route of seeing how much abuse you’re willing to witness, but I was pleased to see that it kept focused on the story and used violence or gore as tools in the story, and it used them well. I really enjoyed the seemingly abstract way it brought Justin Long into the story and how it showed the passing of time (forward and backward). This very rewatchable film will definitely be included in my further research into the monstrous feminine.
